Find a Family for My Baby

I AM PREGNANT AND DUE SOON. HOW TO FIND A FAMILY FOR MY BABY

Finding yourself in a situation where you’re pregnant and considering adoption can feel overwhelming, especially when your due date is near. Placing your baby for adoption isn’t about giving up your baby; it’s about giving your child the gift of a strong, supportive home. Finding a family for your baby can seem to be complicated. However, with the proper support, you can navigate this process easily.

What Kind of Adoption Do You Prefer?

Open:

The birth mother can build a relationship with the adoptive family. You can communicate directly with each other on an ongoing basis.

Semi-open:

All the communication will go through the adoption agency/attorney you work with. You can receive photos and updates on your child, but your personal information remains private.

Closed:

You and the adoptive family do not contact each other, and no personal information is exchanged. No communication occurs after the placement.

Decide What You Want in an Adoptive Family?

Take time to think about what kind of family you envision for your baby. Factors to be considered will include:

  • Do you want your child to grow up in a small town or suburb?
  • Would you prefer first-time parents or a family with other children?
  • Do you prefer a family where both parents work or one stays home?
  • Are you open to transracial adoption, where the parents are a different race than your child?
  • Is your child being raised to follow a specific religion important?
  • What environment do you want your child to grow up in?

Positive adoption language Disclaimer:

Please understand that these blogs are written in a way to use language that people use when searching for help with their adoption plans. Unfortunately, while all of us understand what positive adoption language means, most expectant moms who come to us at first do not understand what that means. The most common search term on the Internet for pregnant moms is “How do I give up my baby for adoption.” If we do not include those words in our blog posts and instead put “How do I create an adoption plan for my baby,” then our website will not show up in most expectant moms’ search results in Google.
