DO I HAVE TO STAY WITH THE ADOPTION AGENCY I CONTACTED WHEN I FIRST THOUGHT ABOUT PUTTING MY NEWBORN UP FOR ADOPTION?

No, you don’t. At times, a birth mother will contact a national adoption agency or local adoption agency because the adoption agency has an eye-catching website, or a friend used that agency, or because the agency has told the birth mother not to work with an adoption attorney, probably because of competitive jealousy. Sometimes, a birth mother will find that the adoption agency is too rigid in their requirements of her, that social workers or adoption agency counselors pry too much into her business, or the agency does not have adoptive parents whom the birth mother LOVES or with whom she could imagine placing her baby for adoption. This past weekend, we at Adoption Attorneys Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C. (“Kirsh & Kirsh”) received an urgent phone call very early on Sunday morning, in fact just after midnight, from a birth father on the way to the hospital with his pregnant fiancé, who was in labor. IF I PUT UP MY BABY FOR ADOPTION, WILL MY CHILD HATE ME?

Honestly, we, at Adoption Attorneys Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C. (“Kirsh & Kirsh”) don’t know. Sometimes children hate their parents for all kinds of “reasons,” both imagined and real. Much of how an adoptee feels about adoption depends on what the adoptive parents say to the adoptee about adoption. An adopted person who grows up in a supportive, loving home, whose adoptive parents recognize and honor the sacrificial love of the birth mother in making an adoption plan will likely NOT have bad feelings about his or her birth parents. However, some children raised by their biological parents hate their parents. Our feelings about our parents largely depend on the love and affection of the parents and the life our parents have provided us.

We, at Kirsh & Kirsh, require that the adoptive parents whom we represent complete a homestudy by an independent, adoption agency. As part of the homestudy process, any reputable national adoption agency or local adoption agency will mandate adoption education as part of the homestudy process, including how birth parents LOVE their children, and, because of that love, they make the hardest decision imaginable by proceeding with an adoption. Additionally, the adoptive parents represented by Kirsh & Kirsh desperately want to adopt. In our experience, adoptive parents have faced too many hurdles in having children to ever take their children for granted and are fully committed to being the best parents they can possibly be and providing their children a world of opportunities that will allow their child to reach his or her full potential in a loving, supportive, happy home.
